Mozhi --- Language

I got the very special chance to watch this wonderful Tamil film named "Mozhi" which means language in English. The movie is produced by one of my favourite actors Prakash Raj. The story re-introduces us to the facts in life and the way to lead our life. Its not a message oriented boring film or not even a regular commercial movie.

The movie revolves around a main character named Archana played by Jothika. This character is a girl who is deaf and dumb since birth......this doesn't make the movie a cry-baby movie....but makes us feel that such people are not disabled but are differently abled. The confidence portrayed by this character doesn't demand sympathy from us but shows its normal to be a differently abled person. she tries to learn many things like painting and craft making ..etc., to overcome the things she might have lost because of her dumbness and deafness. There is a scene where she presents, the male lead, a small guitar made out of soap bar. Then in another scene she feels music by placing her hands over the speakers, showing that differently abled people also understand things that a normal person can, but in a different way. This remind me of a quote in Shiv Kher's book You can win which says " Great people don't do different things but they do things differently"

Another prominent character in the movie is a professor whose feels that the world is still in 1984, the reason being that he was not able to recover from the shock of the death of his son in 1984. This particular character is too socially conscious and there are few incidents which reveals it..like the news of ill health of MGR and also the news of the assassination of Mrs.Indira Gandhi. After this person gets the news of MGR's ill-health, he shows his concern over the future of the great leader and also the state of Tamil Nadu, if anything untoward happens to him. He then reacts to the news of death of Indira Gandhi with a very concern dialogue..."they are killing many innocent Sikhs". I felt that this is the portrayal of the truth that people who are really socially conscious in today's world are considered lunatic.

The male lead of the movie Karthik played by Prithviraj, falls in love with Archana, not as a result of sympathy towards her. He starts learning the sign language to speak to her and to understand what she intends to say by the signs. This particular concept in the movie made me feel that differently abled people know a language which we don't know and but they know our language. so we lack the knowledge of an extra language, so it we who should be considered as disabled or less talented.

The movie is a beautiful portrayal of nicest things in life and the joyous things present in our difficulties and disability or different ability.
