Cheeni Kum --- sugar free but with a pinch of salt

At last I unexpectedly watched Cheeni kum-- the movie which I wanted to watch atleast for the Title song "cheeni kum hai cheeni kum hai" the song with the tune picked up from the Tamil song "mandram vanda tendral" from Mouna Ragam ( Mani Ratnam's movie). In fact the music of both the movies is composed by the Isai Gyani Meastro Illayaraja. I forgot to add the other song "Baatein hawa hai hai sarea hai kyoon kyoon..." another song earlier composed by the Meastro for the Tamil song "Kuzhaloodhum kannaneku kuyil paadum pata kakudaa...kuku kuku....." in the movie Mella tirandha kadavhu.

The movie revolves around the unusual relationship between the a 64 years old man (Amithabh ) and a 34 year woman (Tabu), a daughter of a 58 years old man (Paresh Rawal). All the characters in the movie have a great timing of comedy, including the little girl named"Sexy". The little girl, I felt outplayed even Big B in the scenes which involved both of them. The Little Girl's character in the movie reminds me of the Kishore kumar song " Aaney wala pal jaane walla hai ... Ho sakhe tho isme zindagi bitado....pal jo yeh jaane walla hai"...from the famous amol palekar flick Golmaal......the role of the girl has been wonderfully crafted..to show "live the life for this moment....enjoy this moment to your fill..you never know Kal ho na ho...."

The only scene I felt that Amithabh really played his best was the scene when he gets to know that the little girl is no more...otherwise his work was pretty ordinary in the movie.

Paresh Rawal may not have had a meaty role but he plays well in that small but important role.

But at the end I felt it was a welcome change in the weather among the routine love stories and so called Shahrukh kind of love stories. The chemistry between Tabu and Paresh Rawal could have been created in a better manner.. the only thing I felt as a pinch of salt in the sugar less (Cheeni Kum) coffee.
